A MAN has been sentenced to one month in prison by the Lower Criminal Court for misusing his social media account and posting content that violated public morals and ethical values upheld in society and undermined human dignity.
After receiving a report from the General Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security, the Public Prosecution launched an investigation which led to the identification of the man, whose age and nationality were not revealed.
The report indicated that a video posted on the defendant’s publicly accessible social media account contained material criminalised by law as it contravened the moral and ethical values of society and human decency.
Accordingly, the defendant was arrested and referred to the Lower Criminal Court which also ordered the confiscation of his phone.
Cybercrime Prosecution affirmed that firm legal measures will be taken against violators to protect cyberspace from content that goes against public morals.
It emphasised that crimes targeting social values and ethical foundations must be firmly confronted in co-ordination with the security authorities and relevant agencies, stressing the importance of safeguarding the digital environment from abuse and moral misconduct.
