The popular Bahraini Farmers Market makes its anticipated return tomorrow at the Budaiya Botanical Garden, with an opening ceremony at 10am.
The event, which is being organised by the Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Ministry in partnership with the National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD), will bring together local farmers, brands and artisans from tomorrow until February 14.
The inaugural ceremony is expected to be attended by NIAD secretary-general Shaikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa, the ministry’s Under-Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock Affairs Asim Abdulla, as well as other senior officials.
This year’s edition will feature 32 local farmers, alongside a number of agricultural companies, productive families, nurseries and beekepeers.
This year’s market venue will also feature restaurants and cafés to enhance the overall visitor experience.
Handicraft activities will also be included, along with educational and recreational programmes for children, restaurants and cafés.
A number of family-friendly activities have been lined up.
A free Planting with Little Farmers workshop will be held tomorrow from 9am until 1pm at the Little Farmers Area. This will give children an opportunity to discover and experience farming and agriculture.
At 10.30am, a 30-minute National Flowers Arrangement workshop will be held at the Training Workshops area.
There will also be an hour-long Cup Planting workshop for children between the ages of seven and 14, starting at 9am at the Training Workshops area.
Those interested in participating in the workshops should register using the link on the Instagram page @farmersbh, with places being limited.
Organisers have urged visitors to follow the guidelines and to not smoke at the market. Additionally, bicycles, grills and barbecue cookers, balls, sports equipment and pets are also prohibited.
Those looking to do photography and videography for professional and commercial purposes will have to get a permit from the authorities.
The GDN reported earlier that Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Minister Wael Al Mubarak highlighted the market’s role in developing the kingdom’s agricultural sector and encouraging private investment in the field.
He added that the market aims to boost local agricultural production by providing a direct platform to connect farmers with consumers, encouraging them to diversify their products.
