Bahrain is set to take its condemnation of the recent Iranian attacks to the global parliamentary stage, with senior legislators confirming co-ordinated efforts to rally international support during the upcoming Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly in Istanbul.
Shura Council Chairman Ali Saleh Al Saleh said preparations are underway with National Assembly and Parliament Speaker Ahmed Al Musallam, who also heads the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, to ensure the issue features prominently during the 152nd IPU Assembly from April 15 to 19.
“Mr Al Musallam and I have already agreed to work on this matter,” Mr Al Saleh said during the Shura session yesterday.
“We will highlight in both of our speeches the blatant attacks by Iran on Bahrain and Gulf states. Rest assured, we are prioritising this issue at the international level and will convey the sentiments of the Bahraini people to the global community.”
Mr Al Saleh acknowledged that the matter was raised outside the usual procedural framework governing urgent topics within the chamber, but stressed that the exceptional circumstances warranted drawing attention to ongoing diplomatic and parliamentary action.
By elevating the issue to the IPU platform – which brings together parliaments from around the world – Bahraini legislators aim to translate diplomatic gains into wider parliamentary solidarity, reinforcing the kingdom’s message on sovereignty, regional security and adherence to international norms.
Mr Al Saleh stressed that the Shura Council and Parliament are determined to ensure Bahrain’s voice is heard clearly on the international stage during the high-level gathering in Istanbul.
His remarks followed an intervention by Shura member Dr Hani Al Saati, who praised Bahrain’s diplomatic leadership in confronting Iranian aggression through international institutions.
Dr Al Saati commended the efforts led by His Majesty King Hamad, the follow-up by the government headed by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and the role played by the Foreign Affairs Ministry in defending Bahrain’s sovereignty across global platforms.
He pointed to the recent adoption of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817 condemning Iranian attacks on Bahrain and GCC countries as a ‘qualitative diplomatic achievement’ that underscores Bahrain’s ability to mobilise broad international backing.
“This resolution was adopted with wide support from brotherly and friendly countries, particularly GCC states and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan,” Dr Al Saati said. “It reflects firm commitment to international law, respect for state sovereignty and the protection of civilians.”
He urged the legislative authority to adopt a parliamentary resolution condemning the attacks and to present it urgently during the IPU Assembly in Istanbul.
“The current stage requires unified official and parliamentary efforts to reinforce the principles of security and peace and to support Bahrain’s foreign policy direction,” he added.
Mr Al Musallam also confirmed that Bahrain’s parliamentary delegation will use the upcoming Assembly in Istanbul to brief world parliaments on “unjustified and blatant Iranian attacks” targeting Bahrain, GCC countries and Jordan.”
He said efforts are under way to draft a global parliamentary resolution condemning the attacks.
He stressed that the Iranian attacks constitute a clear violation of international law and the United Nations Charter, underscoring the importance of unifying international parliamentary positions to confront such hostile practices and work towards stopping them to preserve regional security and stability.
His remarks came during a co-ordination meeting he chaired yesterday with members of Bahrain’s parliamentary delegation to review preparations for the IPU Assembly.
