CYCLING – Bahrain Victorious Development Team riders Jan Michal Jackowiak from Poland and Seth Dunwood from Ireland enjoyed a pair of sensational results yesterday in hotly contested under-23 men’s road races in Europe.
Jackowiak powered to a dominant victory in the 19th Trofeo Citta di San Vendemiano-GP Industria and Commercio in Italy, while Dunwoody claimed an impressive runner-up finish in the 56th Paris-Roubaix Espoirs race in France.
Both were one-day events held as part of the Union Cycliste International’s (UCI) Europe Tour for 2026.
In Italy, Jackowiak broke away from the field early and rode the final 30km of the total 171.6km distance solo.
He crossed the finish line in three hours 50 minutes and 11 seconds – 40 seconds from the trailing group that was led by Italian runner-up Diego Nembrini of General Store-Essegibi-F.Lli Curia.
Alessandro Cattani of Team Technipes #inEmiliaRomagna Caffe Borbone, also from Italy, joined them on the podium in third.
Two other Bahrain Victorious Development Team members were classified in the top 20, with Finn Kasper Borremans in 14th and Belgian Leander de Gendt in 19th, both close to a minute-and-a-half from Jackowiak.
Giacomo Rosato from Italy came 28th for the squad, while countryman Santiago Basso and Hungarian Balint Feldhoffer did not finish.
A total of 161 riders entered the race.
Meanwhile, in France, Dunwoody narrowly missed out on the victory after finishing as part of a bunch sprint to the finish, spearheaded by Italian Davide Donati of Red Bull-Bora-hansgrohe Rookies.
Dunwoody matched Donati’s finishing time of 3:33:44 after 159km of action, with another seven riders joining them in the lead group.
In third was Dutch rider Guus van den Eijnden from Alpecin-Premier Tech Development Team.
Mikita Babovich from Russia and Leonardo Consolidani from Italy followed amongst Bahrain Victorious Development Team’s riders in 81st and 82nd, respectively.
Teammates Elia Andreaus, also from Italy, and Valentin Hofer from Austria did not finish.
The race, which is the under-23 version of the Monument classic Paris-Roubaix – also held yesterday in France – featured 140 riders in all.
