CYCLING – Team Bahrain Victorious rider Edoardo Zambanini came close to a top 10 finish yesterday in the 66th De Brabantse Pijl-La Fleche Brabanconne elite men’s road race in Belgium.
The one-day event was part of this year’s Union Cycliste Internationale Pro Series and it covered a 162.6-kilometre distance.
Zambanini was part of a bunch sprint to the finish, which featured a large group of more than 30 riders, led by winner Anders Foldager of Team Jayco Al Ula.
They all had finishing times of three hours 36 minutes and 30 seconds.
Zambanini’s Bahrain Victorious teammate Attila Valter was their only other finisher in 38th, while Pau Miquel, Fran Miholjevic, Kasper Borremans, and Balint Feldhoffer all did not complete the race.
Bahrain Victorious are scheduled to get back in action tomorrow in the 60th Amstel Gold Race in the Netherlands.
Zambanini, Valter, Miquel, and Miholjevic are all set to compete once again, according to the preliminary start list.
They will be joined on Bahrain Victorious’ squad by Pello Bilbao, Matej Mohoric, and Vlad van Mechelen. The UCI World Tour event will be contested over a distance of 257km.
