Finance and National Economy Minister Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa met US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on the sidelines of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington.
Shaikh Salman underlined the longstanding ties and strategic partnership between Bahrain and the US, noting continued growth, particularly in the financial and economic sectors, and a shared commitment to further developing relations.
The financial and economic co-operation between the two countries was reviewed, along with means to enhance co-ordination and create further opportunities. Regional developments and global economic updates were also discussed.
The minister separately met Swiss President Guy Parmelin on the sidelines of the meetings in Washington.
Shaikh Salman conveyed greetings from His Majesty King Hamad and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, along with their best wishes for continued progress and prosperity for Switzerland.
The meeting also reviewed co-operation and means to further develop it in line with the interests of both countries.
The Finance Minister affirmed the longstanding relations between Bahrain and Switzerland, noting continued efforts to advance them across various sectors, particularly in the economic and financial domains.
An agreement on promotion and protection of investments was signed between the Government of Bahrain and the Swiss Federal Council. Shaikh Salman signed on behalf of Bahrain and President Parmelin on behalf of Switzerland.
Shaikh Salman said the agreement opens wider opportunities for high-quality partnerships and enhancing Bahrain’s business environment and strengthening its position as a regional investment hub.
The agreement aims to encourage investment by providing a comprehensive legal framework protecting investments against non-commercial risks and ensuring the free transfer of investment-related payments.
Bahrain’s Ambassador of to the US Shaikh Abdulla bin Rashid Al Khalifa and Central Bank of Bahrain Governor Khalid Humaidan were present at both meetings.
