CYCLING – Bahrain Victorious Development Team riders Jan Michal Jackowiak and Kasper Borremans sprinted to an incredible double podium yesterday in the fourth and final stage of the 17th Oberosterreich Rundfahrt elite men’s road race in Austria.
Jackowiak and Borremans finished right behind Dominik Rober of Team Vorarlberg for second and third place, respectively, at the end of the 169.2-kilometre leg.
Borremans therefore climbed the overall podium after finishing the four-day event in third place on the general classification (GC).
Rober triumphed yesterday after a furious sprint to the finish, pipping the Bahrain Victorious Development Team pair to win in four hours 14 minutes and 11 seconds.
Jackowiak and Borremans were part of a sensational result for the kingdom’s squad yesterday, with teammate Leander de Gendt joining them in the top 10 in eighth place.
Amongst the rest of the team, Balint Feldhoffer came 34th and Valentin Hofer was 42nd, while Seth Dunwoody did not finish.
With yesterday’s results, Borremans joined race winner Henrique Bravo of Soudal Quick-Step Devo Team and runner-up Gavin Sherry of the US under-23 national team in the GC’s top three.
Jackowiak was also in a leading position by taking fifth overall.
To add to his stage and GC podiums, Borremans was also third in both the points rankings and the best young rider standings – making for an outstanding campaign in the event, where the peloton competed over a total of 517.8km.
