A Gulf report has highlighted that digital transformation and artificial intelligence (AI) are reshaping labour markets across the GCC, creating new jobs in technology, data analytics and cybersecurity, while fundamentally changing many traditional occupations, which now require advanced digital skills.
The report, titled “The Impact of Digital and Technological Transformation on the Labour Market in the GCC States”, was submitted to the GCC Supreme Council’s Advisory Commission.
A copy obtained by our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej states that the greatest challenge facing GCC countries is closing the digital skills gap. It stresses that the success of digital transformation depends on modernising education and training systems, updating legislation, and strengthening the governance of emerging technologies.
The report notes that technology is not eliminating jobs but rather transforming them. It calls for updating educational curricula, expanding vocational retraining programmes, encouraging young people to pursue technology-related disciplines, and strengthening partnerships between the public and private sectors to build a more competitive digital economy.
