Most members of the Bahraini family involved in the bus accident in Saudi Arabia have returned home, while arrangements are underway to repatriate the body of the victim to Bahrain within the next two days.
The family of Zahraa Abdulkarim Hassan, who lost her life in the accident, confirmed that Bahrain’s Consulate-General in Jeddah is completing the necessary procedures to transfer her body to the kingdom, where funeral arrangements and condolences will take place.
Speaking to the GDN, family relative Hassan Al Daqqaq said nine injured passengers and accompanying relatives returned to Bahrain last night after travelling from Medina to King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah.
“They arrived safely in Bahrain at around 9pm,” he said.
“Four more family members are scheduled to arrive early today.”
Mr Al Daqqaq said two women injured in the accident would remain in Saudi Arabia to continue receiving treatment under the supervision of Bahrain’s Consulate-General in Jeddah.
“Their condition is stable, but they still require further medical care before they can travel,” he said.
“The consulate has been closely following their case and providing all the necessary support.”
A source at Bahrain’s Embassy in Saudi Arabia said the mission is continuing to co-ordinate with the Saudi authorities following the bus rollover involving a Bahraini family travelling from Mecca to Medina.
The source confirmed that the injured are all in stable condition and receiving the necessary medical care.
“The embassy is closely monitoring the condition of all family members and is working to complete the required procedures, including facilitating the return of Bahraini citizens to the kingdom and providing all necessary consular assistance in co-ordination with the relevant Saudi authorities,” the source said.
The bus, carrying 18 members of the same Bahraini family, overturned while travelling from Mecca to Medina, claiming the life of Ms Hassan.
- In a separate incident, another Bahraini family was involved in a road accident in the Hawtat Bani Tamim area south of Riyadh, resulting in the death of a young Bahraini girl, while the remaining family members continue to receive medical treatment.
Bahrain’s Embassy is also following that case with the Saudi authorities.
No further details are available on this incident.
