Bahrain continues to strengthen its leadership in environmental conservation through national strategies that promote sustainability, protect natural resources and preserve ecosystems, Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa said.
In a statement issued on the occasion of the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem, Shaikh Mohammed said the environmental achievements realised under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, reflect Bahrain’s commitment to integrating environmental sustainability into its comprehensive development process.
Shaikh Mohammed commended the continued support of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty, president of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW) and president of the Consultative Council of the National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD), for agricultural and environmental initiatives that promote sustainability, enhance environmental awareness and support the protection of natural resources.
Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman also highlighted the efforts of Personal Representative of His Majesty and president of the Supreme Council for Environment (SCE) Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa in advancing Bahrain’s environmental programmes and supporting the implementation of national initiatives.
Shaikh Mohammed said the Bahrain Mangrove Initiative reflects successful co-operation among government entities, the private sector, civil society organisations and volunteers, noting that Bahrain exceeded its national mangrove planting target ahead of the 2035 deadline.
He said the progress achieved through the national afforestation plan and the Bahrain Mangrove Initiative would support further nature-based initiatives, strengthen climate adaptation efforts, promote environmental responsibility and reinforce Bahrain’s regional and international standing in ecosystem conservation.
Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Minister Wael Al Mubarak and Oil and Environment Minister and Special Envoy for Climate Affairs Dr Mohammed Bin Daina also highlighted Bahrain’s efforts in environmental protection and biodiversity conservation.
Mr Al Mubarak said the Bahrain Mangrove Initiative has accelerated the implementation of one of Bahrain’s national environmental projects to protect the marine environment, enhance biodiversity and support efforts to address climate change.
Dr Bin Daina sais the Bahrain Mangrove Initiative represents a leading national model for protecting the environment and promoting the sustainable management of natural resources through expanding mangrove cultivation and conserving coastal ecosystems.
