A 48-year-old father left his seven-year-old son alone for eight hours on Mount Fuji, Japan’s highest mountain, while he continued to climb with his older child.
The boy was reportedly too exhausted to keep going and was spotted sitting by himself in foggy, rainy conditions with only a soft drink and a snack.
Staff at a mountain hut found the child and alerted the police.
Officers tracked the father down to a location three hours further up the mountain.
Upon his return, police severely reprimanded the man for his actions before reuniting him with his son. He reportedly apologised for what he called a "rash" decision.
