HANDBALL – Bahrain wrap up their preliminary round campaign today in the 11th Asian Men’s Youth Handball Championship, currently being played in Amman, Jordan.
The kingdom’s youth men’s handball national team take on their counterparts from South Korea in both teams’ Group A finale at Princess Sumaya Hall in the Jordanian capital.
The contest is scheduled for a 4pm start, Bahrain time.
Both sides head into the clash with unbeaten records in their three fixtures so far.
They will be battling for first place in their division heading into the tournament’s quarter-finals, where they will be joined by Jordan and Uzbekistan from their pool.
The host Jordanians and Uzbeks clash in today’s other Group A match at 6pm, also Bahrain time.
India have already been eliminated, having lost all four of their games.
In Group B, Qatar are ensured the top spot after winning all four of their preliminary round games.
Action in their pool concludes today with Syria taking on Iran at 12 noon and Kuwait facing Saudi Arabia at 4pm.
Both times are Bahrain.
Those contests will complete the line-up for the elite eight, which will be played on Friday.
The semis are then slated for Saturday evening, setting the stage for the gold and bronze medal games on Monday next week.
Classification clashes will also be held on the tournament’s concluding days.
This year’s Asian Men’s Youth Handball Championship also serves as qualification for the 12th IHF Men’s Youth Handball World Championship.
The top four will secure their places in the worlds, which take place July 29 to August 9 in 2027.
The Bahrainis are competing in this year’s Asian Men’s Youth Handball Championship for the 10th time.
They were continental champions on back-to-back occasions in 2016 and in 2018, while they also took the bronze medals in 2010.
