A new era has officially dawned for St Christopher’s School as students have been welcomed to its highly anticipated, recently built state-of-the-art Senior School campus in Al Raffa.
Following the poignant emotional closure of its historic Isa Town branch, the monumental move marks the culmination of more than a decade of planning.
Spanning nearly 100,000 square metres, the purpose-built facility has been designed to completely redefine 21st-century learning. The campus boasts cutting-edge academic blocks alongside a dedicated building for Sixth Form students.
The sheer scale of world-class facilities available has left pupils and staff awestruck.
The campus features a magnificent 750-seat auditorium, 400-metre eight-lane running track, a 50-metre swimming pool, and carefully designed flexible and adaptable learning spaces to support collaboration and critical thinking.
Principal Dr Simon Watson took time to acknowledge all those involved in making the project possible: “We would like to thank the team that pulled this together, we have Broadway Malyan, the architects who did the concept design, getting the look and the feel, and then MSCEB the local architects; they put together the detailed design. Mohammed Jalal Construction, who built this wonderful building, especially over the difficult times that we have had over the past months and then the project management team DG Jones have been wonderful, and if it wasn’t for them we would not be where we are today,” he said.
“And, of course, the Bahraini authorities who built the road outside – they have really helped and supported us. The Education Ministry and the Education Minister himself, has taken a real interest in what we are doing here.”
Beyond the architectural marvels, the opening cements the enduring legacy of St Christopher’s School, which has proudly delivered premier British-style education in Bahrain since 1961.
Head of Senior School Sarah Harrison expressed her delight regarding the new campus: “I’m a very proud and excited Head of Senior School,” she said. “It’s just so wonderful to see these buildings come alive with students. To see their gasps of amazement, their big smiles, and watch them explore the spaces has been so rewarding.”
For the pupils who watched the Al Raffa site transform into a bustling reality, the long wait has proven entirely worthwhile. Head student Layla Bhana said: “We have been here since nursery, so we heard a lot about the new Senior School and we have been waiting for this campus. I think that it is incredible – seeing the facilities, and there is a lot to explore, so we are excited for that.”
Founded in 1961, St Christopher’s School is regarded as a leading British-style international school in the Middle East and globally, recognised for its rich history of academic excellence and a caring community. It offers a diverse range of educational pathways, including A Levels, international baccalaureate (IB), and Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC) courses.
From its modest beginnings in a villa in 1961, St Christopher’s now attracts more than 2,000 students from around 60 nations, aged from three to 18, in Saar and Al Raffa campuses.
