Bahrain has called for the strict enforcement of the arms embargo imposed on the Houthi group, warning of the consequences of continued escalation in the region and its impact on the security of Yemen and maritime routes in the Red Sea and Bab Al Mandab.
Speaking during a UN Security Council session last night dedicated to developments in Bab Al Mandab, Bahrain’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Jamal Fares Al Ruwaie said the Houthi escalation had caused heavy humanitarian losses in Yemen.
During the session, Bahrain reaffirmed its full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and the Yemeni government, expressing its support for all decisions taken to confront the Houthi attacks.
The United Kingdom strongly condemned the Houthi attacks. “There can be no progress towards peace while the Houthis continue their military offensive, their attacks against Saudi Arabia, their threats to international shipping, and their obstruction of humanitarian action,” UK Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Kate Foster said.
