FOOTBALL – SUPREME Council for Youth and Sports first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman, and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa attended the opening ceremony of the 27th Gulf Cup, ‘Khaleeji 27’, held Wednesday night in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Shaikh Khalid affirmed that the ongoing eight-nation tournament holds a special place in the history of regional sports, representing a long-standing legacy and an occasion that brings together the people of GCC countries in a spirit of camaraderie and fair competition.
Shaikh Khalid said that the Gulf Cup is not only a football tournament, but an established Gulf event that reflects the ties, history, and common bonds shared by the peoples of GCC countries. He noted that, throughout its history, the tournament has contributed to the development of Gulf football and produced many prominent players and lasting memories.
Shaikh Khalid commended the arrangements and capabilities provided by Saudi to ensure the success of the 27th edition, noting that the kingdom has extensive experience and organisational capabilities in hosting various sporting events.
Shaikh Khalid wished Saudi success in organising the tournament and all participating senior men’s football national teams success in delivering strong technical performances that reflect the progress achieved by Gulf football.
