Bahrain’s reigning Olympic champion and former world champion Winfred Yavi bagged her second gold medal of the 20th Asian Games today in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan after winning the women’s 3,000 metres steeplechase final.
Yavi put in a sensational finishing kick to triumph comfortably in a new Asiad record of nine minutes 04.36 seconds – shattering the previous best mark which she herself held of 9:18.28.
Her victory earned her a third straight steeplechase gold in the history of the Asian Games as well as the fifth Asiad title of her career.
