Several motorists have been sentenced to between two and four months in prison and fined BD600 each by the Lower Criminal Court for multiple traffic offences.
According to the Public Prosecution, the convictions involved speeding beyond prescribed limits and driving in a manner that endangered lives and property, as well as using mobile phones to film while driving and posting the footage on social media.
An investigation was launched after video clips circulated on social media showing the defendants committing the offences.
The accused were subsequently identified and arrested, while the vehicles used in the incidents were impounded.
The Public Prosecution questioned the suspects and confronted them with the video footage and the findings of investigations conducted by the General Directorate of Traffic. They admitted to the charges against them.
They were then remanded in custody and referred to the Lower Criminal Court, which handed down the sentences.
