Indian forest guard Akash Kerketta has been hailed a hero after his rapid intervention stopped an oncoming train from colliding with a herd of elephants crossing railway tracks.
Kerketta spotted the herd attempting to cross the Bagdogra-Naxalbari line in West Bengal as the train approached.
He immediately began waving a red signal flag, alerting the train driver and averting a potentially catastrophic accident.
