MANAMA: Around 130,000 people have used the automatic rubbish bag dispensing devices called Sahl (Easy) since they were installed in 2019, according to Southern Municipality director general Assem Abdullatif.
The machines are currently located at Enma Mall, Al Muntazah Store in Isa Town and Ramez Hypermarkets in Riffa and Askar.
Citizens only need to enter their CPR number and their Electricity and Water Authority account number to receive a packet of 30.
“The demand for the use of the Sahl device is increasing, which reflects the success of the experiment being implemented for the first time in Bahrain from the southern region,” said Mr Abdullatif.
The largest number of 72,637 users was recorded at the Ramez store in Riffa.
“Soon, bag dispensing devices will be installed in Al Nour Cold Stores in Zallaq and Al Muntazah Store in Bukuwara, Riffa, to serve the largest possible number of citizens, bringing the total number of bag-dispensing devices to six.”
The GDN previously reported that the project was the brainchild of Muneera Janahi, an engineer at the Southern Municipality, who found that under the old system people had to visit the municipality offices during working hours and wait in long queues, causing a great deal of inconvenience.
