A MAN has been jailed for 10 years for kidnapping and raping two housemaids after promising them better-paying jobs.
The 34-year-old Bangladeshi was found guilty of human trafficking, rape and kidnap by the High Criminal Court.
He lured the Indonesian women, aged 35 and 39, in May this year to his apartment in Riffa after persuading them to run away from their sponsors.
The women were held captive for two months, raped and forced into the vice trade.
However, the 39-year-old victim managed to alert authorities about her ordeal after tricking her captor into giving her mobile phone back to call her parents. She called the police instead.
“The defendant forced the victims into the vice trade and raped them,” read the court ruling.
“He was found guilty of the charges due to sufficient evidence.
“He lured the victims after he promised them better-paying job but held them captive instead.”
He was fined BD5,000 and will be deported after completing his sentence.
The court heard earlier how one of the victims first met the defendant on social media.
