A 32-year-old man was arrested in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh for killing a man with homemade explosives to avenge the alleged gang-rape of his wife.
According to The Hindustan Times, the local superintendent of police Gaurav Tiwari confirmed the death of a man named Lal Singh from an explosion that took place on his farmland on January 4.
Police reported that a similar explosion took place in August on the farm of a man named Bhanwar Lal which only resulted in minor injuries.
Both Lal Singh and Bhanwar Lal are accused in the gang-rape case.
The man was arrested after he was caught fleeing the event of the fatal blast and he later confessed to planting the bombs to avenge his wife's rape.
According to Tiwari, the accused learnt how to assemble the bomb from the internet. "He first used the technique on Bhanwarlal but he only sustained minor injuries in the explosion," Tiwari said.
The accused later improved upon the explosive that resulted in the death of Lal Singh.
Police are now investigating the role of the gang-rape victim in the crime.
