A PROUD nation is celebrating the success of Bahraini women as dependable partners in the nation-building process and sustainable development.
The country marked Arab Women’s Day yesterday amid national pride in the achievements that have enhanced respect of women’s rights and boosted their active role in the progress and prosperity of the country under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad and the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
Bahraini women have also been greatly supported by the initiatives of the Supreme Council for Women, headed by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty.
Bahrain, under the follow-up of the council and in partnership between the executive, legislative and judicial authorities, has approved more than 150 royal orders, laws, legislative amendments, ministerial decisions and circulars to enhance women’s status during the last two decades.
Bahraini women have actively participated in enriching democratic life – they have won 15 per cent of the seats in Parliament and 23pc in the Shura Council. The Speaker of Parliament and the Second Deputy Chair of the Shura Council are women. They also represent 23pc of the members of municipal councils and 12pc of the judges.
The contribution of Bahraini women in the labour market increased to 43pc of the total national workforce, and 47pc of business owners.
The percentage of women in the government sector has risen to 55pc, in executive jobs to 46pc and in specialised jobs to 62pc.
Women were also at the frontlines of Team Bahrain led by the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, with a representation of 75pc of the members confronting the pandemic.
