ART lovers have been captivated by the colourful creations of a Bahraini father and son showcased at a contemporary exhibition at the Art Centre, Manama.
Sharif & Sharif, organised by the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (Baca), is the first joint showcase for prominent painters AbdulRahim, 68, and Hisham, 29.
It features their take on modern art in the Gulf as well as highlights their individual artistic journeys in canvas forms.
Baca director general of culture and arts Shaikha Hala bint Mohammed Al Khalifa attended the event.
AbdulRahim, one of the founding members of Bahrain Arts Society, is a widely celebrated artist internationally and across the Arab region. He has represented his country in many exhibitions across the world.
His tendency towards immersive, flowing, expressive painting, whether figurative or abstract, is also evident in his son’s work.
Hisham Sharif left a career in finance to follow in his father’s footsteps in 2017, which is also when he had his first solo exhibition at BAS.
Hisham also won a recognition award at the 45th Bahrain Annual Fine Arts Exhibition in 2019 and began an artists’ residency shortly after in New York City.
Meanwhile, his father was recently awarded the Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres from the French Republic in 2022, one of France’s most distinguished official titles.
As for the exhibition, while it may seem that these two artists are going in entirely different directions, both visually and thematically, they share a common understanding and concern for humanity which is evident in their work.
The exhibition runs until February 23, daily from 9am to 8pm.
