Members of the British community and others have been lighting candles and filling a book of condolence in memory of the late British Queen Elizabeth II at St Christopher’s Cathedral in Manama.
A public condolence book has also been placed at the British Embassy in Manama today from 10am to 2pm and, apart from weekends, will be available to sign until September 19.
“Her Majesty will live long in our hearts and prayers,” said David Axtell, chair of Bahrain Anglican Church Council which governs St Christopher’s Cathedral.
“A prayer book is open to anyone wishing to contribute and there is an opportunity to light candles in her memory of dedication and dignified service.”
The cathedral is likely to hold a formal service shortly but details are still being formalised.
As reported earlier in the GDN, British Ambassador Roddy Drummond said: “Given close UK-Bahrain friendships I am sure many here share our deep sense of loss.”
As a mark of respect for Queen Elizabeth II who passed away last Thursday after reigning for 70 years, His Majesty King Hamad, ordered flags in Bahrain to be lowered to half-mask for three days.
He extended his heartfelt condolences to the UK’s King Charles III, members of the royal family and the people of Great Britain.
