Traffic personnel deployment will be intensified near schools, main roads and key junctions as part of preparations for the new academic year, which starts on September 3.
Thousands of students will start the new school year, as community and traffic police will be out in force to ensure pupils safely reach schools and to ease traffic flow in different areas of the country.
Traffic director general Brigadier Shaikh Abdulrahman bin Abdulwahab Al Khalifa yesterday affirmed that students’ safety is a top priority that requires a safe environment on the roads to ensure they reach their schools and return home safely.
“Parents are urged to comply with traffic laws and regulations while transporting their children, particularly around schools and educational areas,” he said.
He stressed that the traffic police will intensify their presence on various roads and streets as part of an integrated traffic management system during peak hours.
“They will also take firm action against any violation of traffic behaviour that may endanger students’ safety.”
Brigadier Shaikh Abdulrahman added that they have completed their preparations for the new academic year by intensifying traffic patrols and implementing awareness and guidance programmes in co-operation with various relevant authorities.
These efforts will help enhance traffic safety around schools, he added.
He stressed that protecting students is a shared responsibility that requires collective efforts, and that the ultimate goal at the end of every school day is for every student to return safely to their family.
The Interior Ministry has conducted field visits to enhance the readiness of civil security guards in schools ahead of the start of the new academic year.
Students will return to classrooms on September 3, with the first term continuing until January 14, 2027. First-term examinations will be held from December 21 to January 12. Mid-term holidays will run from January 17 to 28.
The second term will begin on January 31 and continue until June 30, with final examinations scheduled from May 3 to 27.
Summer holidays next year will start on July 1 and run until September 2.
