A visit to the Saudi Food Bank was recently held by the Conserving Bounties Society, which operates the Bahrain Food Bank, as part of efforts to strengthen regional co-operation, exchange expertise and examine leading practices in food conservation and surplus management.
The delegation was led by board member and executive committee chair Aamal Almoayyed, who was accompanied by board member and treasurer Layla Janahi, board member Farouk Al Khaja, chief executive officer Thawra Al Dhaen and board secretary Nada Abdulkarim.
They were received by Saudi Food Bank CEO Faisal Al Shoushan, deputy CEO Ahmed Almuntakh, director of communications and media relations Nasser Alhajri and director of administrative and human resources affairs Abeer Aljudai.
During the tour, the delegation visited Etaam Express, a non-profit supermarket offering a variety of food products at competitive prices.
It provided an in-depth look into the supermarket’s operations and its role in supporting food security initiatives while contributing to broader efforts to reduce food waste and maximise the value of surplus food.
“This visit was undertaken at the recommendation of our chairman Abdulateef Al Rajhi, and reflects our dedication to learning from proven regional approaches to food surplus management,” said Ms Almoayyed.
“It also allowed us to learn more about Etaam Express, which demonstrates how community service can be delivered while maintaining financial sustainability.
“We look forward to broadening our scope of co-operation with the Saudi Food Bank and translating this exchange into practical initiatives that can be adapted to Bahrain’s needs, thereby helping amplify the society’s impact.”
