Bahrain and Qatar have opened ministerial-level talks to set up mechanisms and procedures to start a new chapter in bilateral relations.
This came as delegations from Bahrain and Qatar attended a meeting at the headquarters of the GCC General Secretariat yesterday in Saudi Arabia.
Foreign Minister Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani headed the Bahraini delegation, while Qatari Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani led the delegation from his country.
The officials explored ways to establish necessary mechanisms and procedures to launch discussions at the level of bilateral committees, in accordance with the AlUla Declaration issued at the GCC Summit in January 2021 to settle all pending issues between the two countries.
The two sides also reaffirmed the importance of close co-operation in a way that enhances fraternal relations, achieves the aspirations of people for security, stability and development, and supports the path of joint GCC action.
The meeting follows His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister’s phone call with Qatari Amir Shaikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani last month.
During the call, HRH Prince Salman stressed the importance of settling all pending issues to achieve common aspirations of the citizens of Bahrain and Qatar.
He noted fraternal ties binding the two friendly countries and peoples and stressed the need to continue communication between officials.
