A DRIVER was sentenced to five years in jail after he was found guilty by the High Criminal Court of selling methamphetamine, locally known as shabu.
The 42-year-old Bangladeshi was caught in possession of the narcotics during a sting operation on February 19 earlier this year.
According to court documents, secret sources and investigative reports provided sufficient evidence to prove the defendant’s guilt.
“A confidential informant called the 42-year-old to arrange for a sale of shabu on February 19 and a sting operation was set up in Manama,” said the court in its written verdict.
“Undercover officers were present and upon the exchange the defendant was arrested in his car.
“A search of the vehicle revealed a clear bag which contained shabu and sensitive scales.”
A urine analysis of the 42-year-old also confirmed the presence of shabu in his system.
He admitted to using the narcotics when questioned by the Public Prosecution.
The defendant was also fined BD3,000.
The narcotics and vehicle were also seized by authorities.
