Children of all abilities are being urged to take part in an event that aims to enhance their creativity and social skills and boost their confidence this weekend.
The programme ‘Creativity for All’ offers children, including those with special needs, the opportunity to explore a range of skills in art, construction, coding, cooking and storytelling.
The event is being organised by unregistered, non-profit charity champions OneHeartBahrain, Interactive Minds Centre for Rehabilitation, a learning support and development centre, and Gloria’s Team, a group that specialises in summer camps and events for children.
“We want to help all children, whether they have special needs or not, to be creative and thrive,” Interactive Minds Centre for Rehabilitation founder director Lenwyn Onanad said in a statement.
“By encouraging creativity, we hope to make a real difference in the lives of these children and their families,” he added.
Participants will craft artistic creations using elements of nature, combine building blocks with Play-Doh and explore the exciting world of coding, among a range of activities.
Youngsters will also be taken on a fun culinary adventure where they will work together to build fruit sculptures. They will also make their own puppets and bring their stories to life through imaginative performances.
The event aims to equip children to become ‘active participants in their own stories’ and not just passive observers.
“Teaching special needs children a variety of creative skills not only makes their lives better but also helps them have a better future,” Mr Onanad added.
The programmes set for the weekend will boost children’s physical and behavioural development besides enhancing their thought processes and social skills.
“We aim to not only stimulate their cognitive abilities and imagination but also to boost their confidence,” Mr Onanad said.
Meanwhile, Gloria’s Team special needs educator Gloria Anthony said such events encouraged the young to communicate and mix with their peers.
“Creativity allows different forms of communication and unique perspectives to shine. This event brings together children with special needs and their general peers and provides them with a positive learning environment that encourages inclusivity,” she said.
She also pointed out that she believes every child has a creative side and it is crucial to allow their ‘natural gifts to shine’.
The session will take place tomorrow, from 2pm to 5pm, at Interactive Minds Centre for Rehabilitation in Salmaniya. It is open to children above five.
Those interested may come prepared with a water flask and fruit for the cooking activity.
