FOOTBALL – Former Manchester United youth academy coach Paul McGuinness will be conducting a five-day workshop in the kingdom later this month, organised by the Bahrain Football Association (BFA) in co-operation with the Abdulla bin Khalid bin Hamad Talent Academy.
This was announced yesterday by the BFA.
The programme, entitled “Talent Development for Elite Player Coaches”, will be held from September 23 to 27, and it will include theoretical lectures and practical applications.
McGuinness is a former professional player who took to the pitch as a midfielder. He is the son of former Manchester United player and manager Wilf McGuinness – a Busby Babe who was forced to abandon a hugely promising playing career when injury led to his retirement at the age of just 22, after 85 first-team appearances.
McGuinness spent a total of 23 years at Manchester United, helping to move a number of players through the academy and into first-team football at the club.
He had also held coach and player development positions with the English Football Association and Leicester City.
