A hundred participants are expected to benefit from a major initiative aimed at empowering Bahraini youth in global leadership and cognitive skills to promote respect, coexistence and human fraternity.
The King Hamad Leadership for Peaceful Coexistence Programme, organised by the King Hamad Global Centre for Peaceful Coexistence, is part of efforts to prepare a new generation of young leaders committed to peaceful coexistence and mutual respect.
Registration opened yesterday and will continue until January 31. Applicants need to be Bahraini citizens between the ages of 20 to 40, and need to be fluent in English writing and speaking.
Directives
Transportation and Telecommunications Minister and the centre’s board of trustees chairman Dr Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa highlighted the programme, stating that it comes following the directives of His Majesty King Hamad.
“The initiative reflects Bahrain’s commitment to being a model for dialogue and mutual understanding among religions and cultures,” said Dr Shaikh Abdulla.
“The programme is being implemented in collaboration with Faith in Leadership and the 1928 Institute, affiliated with Oxford University, following a memorandum of understanding signed last August in London.
“The programme also aims to provide participants with academic training and professional tools to become ambassadors of peace, capable of addressing religious hate speech, racism and disputes through peaceful means.”
The 100 participants will take part in the programme over a four-year period, with 25 students being registered annually to benefit from international best practices in promoting shared values.
The programme’s curriculum blends workshop-based learning with professional development and continuous coaching, focusing on both theoretical and practical learning of leadership skills in peaceful coexistence.
Participants will engage with a variety of contexts, from personal interactions to case studies to global digital forums, always delving into what is needed to create positive change: in oneself, in one’s community and in the world.
They will each receive one-on-one coaching to support their development and practice.
Participants will be prepared to lead an optional Capstone Project – a local project of their own design that demonstrates their leadership in fostering, promoting and sustaining co-existence.
They will also be equipped to train and mentor others to a high level.
The programme will include a reflective practice assignment to support participants in reflecting on their learning and development over the course of the programme.
Additionally, there will be a ‘Train the Trainer’ programme, which focuses on professional boundaries, discerning between training, coaching and mentoring, demonstrating reflective practices, and clear communication and presence.
Dr Shaikh Abdulla also underscored the centre’s commitment to advancing initiatives that support the vision of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
Those interested in participating can apply for the programme via the centre’s website khgc.org.bh.
