INSPECTIONS are being intensified at swimming pools to ensure they are being run safely and in line with business guidelines.
The Muharraq Governorate has launched an inspection campaign, in co-ordination with government entities, to verify pools’ compliance with public safety and health regulations.
The drive comes amid rising temperatures and increased use of private and commercial swimming pools by citizens and residents across Bahrain.
In recent years, concerns have been raised regarding the safety standards of certain facilities, including unlicensed pools or those operating without adequate safety protocols. The governorate’s latest initiative aims to address these concerns through proactive oversight and enforcement.
Muharraq Deputy Governor Brigadier Jassim Al Ghatam confirmed that the inspection committee has begun field visits in accordance with a plan that will continue throughout the summer months.

“These visits are being conducted in collaboration with a joint committee that includes representatives from relevant ministries and official bodies,” he said.
“The goal is to examine the safety of swimming facilities and assess whether they comply with legal, health and safety standards. We are also monitoring pools for violations and will take immediate legal action against unlicensed or non-compliant establishments.”
The inspection teams are focusing on a wide range of safety protocols including the availability and functionality of essential safety equipment such as fire extinguishers, first aid kits and lifesaving tools, all of which are critical in emergency situations.
They are also examining the condition of electrical connections and gas lines, along with water quality, to ensure the health and safety of pool users.
Muharraq Municipal Council chairman Abdulaziz Al Naar stressed the need to ensure pools do not pose a risk to the public.
“We understand that swimming pools are a popular destination during the summer, especially for families and young children,” he said.
“Everyone concerned in the government alongside appointed public representatives are committed to ensure that these places are safe and properly maintained.”
Authorities have encouraged the public to report any suspected violations or unsafe conditions at local pools, emphasising that community co-operation is essential for the campaign’s success.
“We are not here to disrupt businesses; we are here to protect lives,” said Mr Al Naar.
“Compliance is not optional when it comes to the safety and wellbeing of our community.
“This initiative reflects the Interior Ministry’s broader commitment to ensuring that all recreational facilities in the kingdom operate in accordance with national regulations and international safety standards.”
