Two state-of-the-art public parks have been inaugurated in the new East Sitra Housing Town as part of Bahrain’s ongoing efforts to enhance community facilities and expand green spaces across the kingdom.
The dual openings yesterday were officiated by Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Minister Wael Al Mubarak alongside Housing and Urban Planning Minister Amna Al Romaihi, in the presence of senior officials and local representatives.
The two parks – covering more than 4,000 square metres combined – feature multi-purpose sports courts, wide green lawns, shaded seating areas, and children’s play zones, offering new recreational outlets for families and residents of the town.
Mr Al Mubarak said the initiative reflects the government’s dedication to delivering high-quality municipal and public services in all areas of the country. “We are continuing to launch service-oriented projects that meet citizens’ aspirations and contribute to the kingdom’s comprehensive development,” he said.
“Our priority is to keep expanding and upgrading parks, walkways and public recreational sites while increasing Bahrain’s green cover and improving urban infrastructure.”
He added that the ministry is closely co-ordinating with the Housing and Urban Planning Ministry to ensure integrated services in existing and new housing projects.
“By making the most of available spaces, we aim to provide accessible municipal facilities that enhance the environmental and urban quality of new housing cities,” Mr Al Mubarak noted.
Ms Al Romaihi highlighted that the project aligns with the ministry’s strategy to ensure sustainable urban environments in all current and future housing developments.
“Green and open spaces are a vital element in our housing plans,” she said. “This project represents a qualitative addition to East Sitra Housing Town’s amenities, providing residents with modern facilities that promote well-being and community engagement.”
She added that every new housing project includes parks, playgrounds and sports areas to foster social interaction and family cohesion.
“Our goal is to create integrated residential environments that offer all the necessary services within walking distance,” Ms Al Romaihi said.
Parliamentarians representing the area welcomed the openings, praising the ministries’ efforts to deliver community-driven projects.
MP Jalila Al Sayed, which part of the area is in her constituency, commended the initiative, describing it as a valuable contribution to residents’ quality of life.
“These two parks will offer safe and comfortable spaces for families and children,” she said. “They reflect the government’s responsiveness to citizens’ needs and its commitment to providing inclusive recreational infrastructure.”
MP Mohsin Al Asbool, that represents most of the new town’s area, echoed similar sentiments, saying the parks demonstrate the government’s commitment to improving urban environments in new housing areas.
“Such projects help enhance infrastructure, elevate service levels and support citizens’ aspirations for sustainable and high-quality living conditions,” he said.
Meanwhile, Capital Trustees Board Chairman Saleh Tarradah praised the collaboration between the two ministries and other agencies in implementing such initiatives.
“Developing parks and open spaces is key to strengthening Bahrain’s urban landscape and improving the quality of life,” he said. “This kind of integrated approach ensures residents have easy access to healthy, vibrant environments that encourage outdoor activity and community bonding.”
The first park spans 2,104sqm, while the second covers 2,174sqm. Both projects feature landscaped green areas, sports facilities, and shaded leisure zones designed to serve all age groups.
Officials described the opening as part of a broader government push to create more livable, environmentally friendly urban communities – and to make public green spaces a defining feature of Bahrain’s modern housing developments.
