The High Criminal Court has sentenced a man to life in prison after finding him guilty of transmitting information to foreign terrorist organisations.
He was found guilty of assisting the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Hizbollah to carry out hostile operations against the country, according to a Public Prosecution statement.
The court yesterday convicted him of seeking out vital information in order to hand it to a foreign country to harm national interests, as well as endorsing aggression against Bahrain.
According to the Criminal Information Directorate (CID), the man sent photographs and videos of the aftermath of attacks via the Internet to accounts run by the IRGC.
“The case was heard over several sessions, and the defendants attorney presented their defence,” the statement continued.
“All legal measures to ensure a fair trial were taken.”
The Public Prosecution reiterated that Bahrain’s national security remains a top priority and that any individual who corresponds with foreign parties to harm its security is committing a crime punishable by law.
