Bahrain played a key role in Kerala’s response to the Nipah virus outbreak, helping authorities swiftly secure critical medication when it was not available domestically.
Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan said during a Press conference that emergency stocks of Ribavirin were unavailable in the country and had to be sourced from Bahrain within 24 hours. The rapid procurement enabled Kerala health authorities to begin treatment without delay.
Kerala’s Health Minister had earlier announced on Sunday (June 14) that the first batch of 50 vials was flown in from Bahrain through an emergency arrangement coordinated by state authorities, with additional consignments expected to follow.
A 43-year-old man tested positive for the virus on June 11 and remains in critical condition. No new cases have been reported so far, with test results of contacts, including family members, returning negative.
