Kuwait's Ambassador to the United States, Shaikha Al Zain Al Sabah, has sent an official letter to the editorial board of The Wall Street Journal in response to a report containing "entirely false" allegations regarding Kuwait's participation in military operations against Iran.
In her letter, the ambassador said the report, published on July 24 by journalists Summer Said and Shelby Holliday under the headline "Bahrain, Kuwait Warplanes Struck Iran in Rare Gulf Retaliation", is completely untrue.
She emphasised that the allegations contained in the article are entirely false, stressing that Kuwait has not participated in any military operations against Iran, nor has it permitted the use of its territory, airspace, or territorial waters to launch offensive operations against any neighbouring country.
Ambassador Al Sabah reiterated that Kuwait's position has been, and remains, firm, clear, and public throughout the current regional crisis. This position is based on established principles of respect for international law, preservation of state sovereignty, promotion of good neighbourly relations, and the peaceful resolution of disputes through dialogue and diplomacy.
She explained that, given Kuwait's location in a region that has borne the heavy human and economic costs of conflict for decades, the nation believes regional security is not achieved through escalation, but rather through de-escalation, restraint, and engagement in serious and sustained diplomatic dialogue.
These principles continue to form the foundation of Kuwait's foreign policy, she noted, calling on The Wall Street Journal to correct its report to accurately reflect the country's position and policies. She emphasised that accuracy in reporting, especially amid regional tensions, is not merely a journalistic responsibility, but a necessity for maintaining regional stability and ensuring public opinion is not misled on issues related to international peace and security.
