The highly anticipated third-generation Mercedes-Benz CLA petrol-hybrid range has been officially launched in Bahrain by Al Haddad Motors.
The exclusive vehicle unveiling ceremony was hosted yesterday at the state-of-the-art Al Haddad Motors showroom in Tubli, in the presence of senior Al Haddad Motors management, prominent guests and members of the local media.
“The all-new Mercedes CLA marks a momentous milestone for Al Haddad Motors,” the company’s chief executive officer, Warren Hudson, said.
“This exceptional vehicle bridges premium refinement with dynamic design, offering our Bahraini clientele cutting-edge digital innovation.”
The launch of the advanced four-door coupé comes at a critical juncture for the kingdom’s rapidly evolving automotive sector.
While electric vehicle charging infrastructure continues to expand across the wider GCC region, a hybrid variant that refuels, drives, and services precisely like a traditional petrol car, yet delivers vastly superior efficiency and reduced tailpipe emissions, presents a highly compelling, low-risk proposition for local premium luxury buyers.
“We take immense pride in elevating our local lineup with a coupé that captures the passion and high standards that recently won the European Car of the Year Award 2026,” Mr Hudson added.
At the heart of the sleek new CLA sits a newly developed 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine sourced from the celebrated Mercedes-Benz FAME modular engine family.
Moving away from the conventional Otto-cycle power units in the previous model, the sophisticated new engine operates on the ultra-efficient Miller combustion cycle.
The advanced mechanical setup is paired with a hi-tech 48-volt mild-hybrid electrical system built around a remarkably compact 1.3kWh lithium-ion battery pack.
The electric motor is integrated directly into a newly designed eight-speed dual-clutch transmission badged as the 8F-eDCT to boost performance.
There are three configuration options tailored to different driving preferences.
The entry-level CLA 180 produces a capable 136hp (136PS) and 200Nm of torque, achieving the standard 0-100kmph sprint in approximately 8.8 seconds before topping out at a maximum speed of 217kmph.
For those demanding all-weather traction and enhanced highway performance, the top-tier CLA 220 4MATIC introduces an advanced all-wheel-drive system.
This flagship variant delivers up to 211hp and an impressive 300Nm of torque, shaving the 0-100kmph sprint down to a brisk 7.1 seconds.
A clever third clutch allows the onboard electric motor to fully disengage the driveline for effortless, fuel-free highway coasting.
At urban cruising speeds, when energy demand drops below 22kW, the premium coupé can run entirely on electric power.
This allows Mercedes-Benz to claim an official combined fuel economy approaching five litres per 100km, with realistic real-world local testing hovering around just six litres per 100km.
In terms of road presence, the new CLA has grown to maximise occupant comfort, particularly during the fierce Middle Eastern summer months.
The CLA’s total length has been stretched to 4,723mm, whilst the wheelbase has been extended to 2,790mm.
This translates into more rear passenger legroom and shoulder space, all whilst retaining the signature aerodynamic four-door coupé silhouette that has defined the model line since its global inception.
The cabin is a digital masterclass with a spectacular dashboard-spanning display architecture dominating the layout.
From the AMG Line Premium trim level upwards, the magnificent dual-screen MBUX Superscreen becomes standard, treating front passengers to their own dedicated 14-inch entertainment display.
Across the local market lineup, five curated trim choices will be available to buyers – Sport, Sport Executive, AMG Line Executive, AMG Line Premium, and the range-topping AMG Line Premium Plus.
By introducing this highly efficient petrol-hybrid alongside the all-electric EQ model, Mercedes-Benz is responding to the evolving needs of drivers in the Middle East.
Local road trips can sometimes mean driving long distances between city charging points, and the intense summer heat makes people mindful of battery performance.
The new hybrid offers a gentle transition, giving drivers the signature luxury, beautiful cabin technology, and excellent fuel savings of a modern Mercedes-Benz, while keeping the familiar comfort of a traditional petrol car that easily fits into their daily lives.
“In the coming months, expect a steadfast commitment towards sustainable luxury and personalised customer experiences,” Mr Hudson added.
“Through uncompromised engineering and showroom innovations, we look forward to driving unprecedented success across the kingdom.”
