Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met George Gerapetritis, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The meeting reviewed the historic friendship between Bahrain and Greece and ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation, building on the outcomes of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s visit to Greece and its fruitful results, reflecting the two countries’ shared commitment to advancing cooperation at all levels.
The two sides explored opportunities to strengthen cooperation and partnership between the GCC and the European Union, in light of Bahrain’s current presidency of the GCC, as well as to coordinate efforts during Bahrain’s non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council and advance the implementation of agreements and memoranda of understanding signed between the two countries.
The meeting also addressed regional developments and their implications for regional and international security and stability, efforts to achieve peaceful solutions to regional conflicts and promote peace and security in the region, and the impact of disruptions to maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab Al-Mandab Strait on international trade and the global economy. The two sides also exchanged views on issues of mutual interest.
The meeting was attended by Ambassador Jamal Fares Al Rowaiei, Permanent Representative of Bahrain to the United Nations in New York.
