Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty King Hamad and Supreme Council for Women (SCW) president, chaired the second meeting of the SCW in its ninth term.
HRH Princess Sabeeka expressed appreciation for His Majesty’s congratulations on the occasion of the SCW’s Silver Jubilee and the 25th anniversary of its establishment, as well as for His Majesty’s recognition of the Council’s achievements in supporting the advancement of Bahraini women and strengthening their participation in national development.
HRH Princess Sabeeka also expressed thanks and appreciation for the congratulations extended by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, on the occasion, and for the recognition of the Council’s progress and role in supporting the advancement of Bahraini women.
HRH Princess Sabeeka noted that this year’s celebration of the Council’s Silver Jubilee, under the theme “Twenty-Five Years at the Heart of the Reform Project”, represents an important national milestone to reflect on the achievements of Bahraini women and look ahead to a new phase building on these gains and aligned with Bahrain’s future aspirations. She also highlighted the significance of the occasion as it coincides with the royal order naming 2026 the ‘Year of Isa Al Kabeer’, commemorating the founder of the modern state and leader of institutional development, HH Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, Ruler of Bahrain and its Dependencies.
She noted that the next phase places greater responsibility on the SCW to preserve and develop the gains achieved, particularly as it prepares a new national strategy that takes account of recent developments and anticipates the future needs and priorities of Bahraini women in line with national directions.
The Council was briefed by SCW secretary general Lulwa Al Awadhi on the general secretariat’s report on measures taken to follow up on implementation of the National Plan for the Advancement of Bahraini Women (2025-2026).
By mid-September 2026, implementation had reached 67 per cent across all areas of the national plan.
The Council reviewed progress under its initiative to support women’s participation on the boards of public shareholding companies. It also reviewed the outcomes of meetings with equal opportunities committees in government entities.
