Bahrain’s Birhanu Balew has added another gold medal to the kingdom’s already impressive haul at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
Balew successfully defended his Asiad title in the men’s 10,000 metres final, winning with a sensational finishing sprint in 28 minutes and 27.51 seconds at Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium.
Fellow-Bahraini Albert Kiptoo came third to secure the event’s bronze medal in 28:34.38.
Balew’s title earned Bahrain their fourth gold medal so far at this year’s Asian Games. It was also the fourth Asiad crown of his career.
The kingdom’s delegation now have a total of seven medals so far in Aichi-Nagoya, including the four gold, two silver, and one bronze.
Balew is scheduled to return to action on Tuesday when he goes for the long-distance double in the men’s 5,000m final.
