ATHLETICS – Four-time Asian Games champion Birhanu Balew was amongst three Bahraini athletes who received their medals yesterday after excelling in their respective athletics events on Friday night at the 20th Asian Games.
Balew and compatriot Albert Kiptoo both took part in the podium ceremony for the men’s 10,000 metres, where they were joined by India’s Gulveer Singh.
Meanwhile, Bahrain’s Layla Kamal stood in for fellow-sprinter Edidiong Odiong to receive the women’s 100m bronze medal, as Odiong was competing yesterday during the prize-giving.
Odiong placed third after finishing behind gold-medallist Yujie Chen from China and silver medal winner Shanti Pereira from Singapore.
