Work is underway on a major solar energy project at Bahrain University (BU), in co-operation with the Electricity and Water Authority.
University president Dr Fuad Al Ansari inspected the solar-powered car park shades, which is among the largest renewable energy initiatives in Bahrain’s education sector.
The project features 64,606 solar panels installed on car park shades and in ground-mounted systems, covering a total area of approximately 280,000 square metres. The system is expected to generate nearly 70 gigawatt-hours of electricity annually, improving the university’s energy efficiency while delivering direct financial savings.
It is also expected to reduce carbon emissions and support Bahrain’s efforts to expand the use of renewable energy as the kingdom works towards achieving carbon neutrality by 2060.
