An altercation took place inside the cockpit of Flydubai flight FZ1073, which was travelling from Dubai International Airport to Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv, Israel, yesterday, the airline has revealed.
The crew on board managed to bring the situation under control, after which the aircraft was diverted to Tabuk Airport in Saudi Arabia, where it landed
safely, a company spokesperson said.
All passengers were safe, while the captain and co-pilot were found to have sustained injuries and were taken to hospital.
Saudi television reported that the air traffic control centre had received a distress call from Flydubai flight FZ1073 requesting an emergency landing at the airport at 8.44am.
“We have operated two alternative flights to Tabuk and are giving the highest priority to transporting passengers and completing their journey to Tel Aviv. Flydubai flights across the network are operating according to their normal schedule,” the spokesperson said.
“At this early stage, the reasons and motives behind the incident remain unknown and are subject to an official investigation. We urge everyone to refrain from premature speculation while the authorities gather the facts,” he added.
“Our highest priority at this time is to ensure the safety and well-being of our passengers and the crew members involved in the incident, and to support the official investigation”.
Earlier yesterday, the airline announced that the flight had been involved in an incident while airborne and had landed safely in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, adding that all passengers were safe.
The Flydubai spokesperson said the airline would issue further updates as more confirmed details became available.
