Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB) Governor Khalid Humaidan participated in a high-level joint meeting of GCC Ministers of Finance and Central Bank Governors with International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva yesterday.
The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Finance and National Economy Minister Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, as part of Bahrain’s presidency of the 46th Session of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
Held on the sidelines of the 126th Ministerial Meeting of the Financial and Economic Cooperation Committee, the session was themed ‘Economic Prospects and Policy Challenges: Enhancing Resilience to Geopolitical Shocks’.
The annual platform brings together regional financial leaders and senior IMF officials to review economic outlooks, key policy priorities, regional integration, and ongoing IMF-GCC cooperation.
During the session, Mr Humaidan acted as a lead discussant in a roundtable panel, where he highlighted the role of digital assets in transforming financial infrastructure.
He stressed that digital assets present significant opportunities to enhance cross-border payments, drive financial innovation, and support capital market development across the region.
However, the CBB Governor emphasised that robust and balanced regulatory frameworks remain essential to encourage innovation while safeguarding overall financial stability.
