Seventy families who have waited more than a year and a half to move into their completed homes at Saraya 2 in Bu Quwah could finally be close to receiving their keys.
Road-raising works began yesterday at the housing project in Block 457, clearing the way for electricity and water connections to around 70 homes that have remained unoccupied despite being ready.
Area MP Hassan Ibrahim said the long-awaited work followed sustained efforts with the Works Ministry and other authorities to resolve the infrastructure issue and enable beneficiaries to move into their homes.
“A number of the houses have already been completed and are ready for occupation, but their owners have had to wait for more than a year and a half for electricity and water services,” he said.
The road level has to be raised before the necessary infrastructure work for the utility connections can proceed.
“Residents have been patient and today they can see tangible work taking place on the ground,” Mr Ibrahim said.
“We hope this step will lead quickly to the completion of the remaining requirements and allow the families to move into their homes.”
He thanked Works Minister Ibrahim Al Hawaj, Works Ministry Under-Secretary Shaikh Mishal bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, as well as ministry officials and specialist teams involved in the project, for their co-operation and response.
Mr Ibrahim said he would continue to follow up with the authorities until all necessary services had been completed and connected.
“Our work does not stop with the start of the road works. I will continue following up until the required services are completed and these families can finally move into their homes after such a long wait,” he said.
“This is part of our responsibility towards the people of the area and our duty to follow up on their needs and work with the relevant authorities to find practical solutions.”
