MANAMA: Prevalence of obesity among adolescents and children in Bahrain stands at 26 per cent (girls) and 22pc (boys), according to the latest report issued by the World Health Organisation.
Clinical dietician Dr Areej Al Saad said the report was based on results of a study conducted on students aged 13 to 15 in 2018.
The report, published on the Health Ministry’s web site, revealed that 40pc of students are obese and overweight and 23pc suffer from laziness and physical inactivity, she said.
“This is indicative of a problem that should be solved with concerted efforts of families, teachers and various civil society institutions.”
She was speaking at a meeting organised by the Supreme Council for Women’s youth committee to discuss healthy eating among teenagers during summer holiday.
