A THREE-DAY Terrazzo Table-Making workshop is being held at Al Jasra Handicrafts Centre in collaboration with Meraki Art Space, where participants aged 18 and above can learn about its history, materials and decorative techniques.
Terrazzo is a composite material, poured in place or precast, which is used for floor and wall treatments. It consists of chips of marble, quartz, granite, glass, or other suitable materials, poured with a cementitious binder, polymeric, or a combination of both.
Terrazzo is a flooring material consisting of chips of marble or granite set in concrete and polished to give a smooth surface.
Workshop topics include: Day 1 – Learn about Terrazzo and its history; Learn about cement materials; and Learn how to create colourful cement flakes.
Day 2 – Learn the method of mixing cement; and Learn how to create and decorate a table following Terrazzo style.
Day 3 – Learn how to produce a smooth finish including sanding and cleaning the surface.
The workshop outcome will include a beautiful Terrazzo table and participants will be able to apply the techniques learnt to produce different objects in the future.
The workshop, priced at BD27, runs from January 10 to 12 from 4pm to 6pm and is limited to those who have been vaccinated and recovered from Covid-19 and have the green shield.
