A MAJOR dust storm whipped through Bahrain yesterday, reducing visibility and making breathing outside a challenge.
Motorists faced difficulties in seeing ahead as visibility was reduced to 1,500 meters.
Garbage bins were strewn on to the middle of the road in many areas as winds gathered momentum.
However, no major accidents or casualties were reported.
The Meteorological Directorate at the Transportation and Telecommunications Ministry said the dusty weather is likely to continue for a couple of days, before settling on Sunday.
“The storm has been fuelled by the north-westerly winds from Pakistan and Iran moving to Iraq and Saudi Arabia.
It could range from 20 to 25 knots reaching 28 to 33 knots at times, it said.
People with respiratory disorders and allergies have been urged to remain indoors.
A similar sandstorm engulfed several areas of Saudi Arabia, including Al Jawf, Riyadh, Qassim, Hail, as well as eastern parts of Mecca and Medina.
