BASKETBALL – Bahrain's youth men’s basketball national team star Mahdi Habib Baqer was named to the all-select team at the NBA Academy Showcase in Abu Dhabi, the UAE.
Baqer, a crafty point guard, participated in the camp as one of two players from the kingdom.
The other was Jock James.
They were part of a 32-player roster representing 14 countries from the GCC, South Asia, and Africa in the under-18 event.
The Bahraini pair were accompanied at the select showcase by senior men’s national team assistant coach Leon Subotic.
A third player, Mujtaba Mahmood Rayyan, was also set to take part, but had to withdraw due to injury.
The players underwent an integrated programme that included individual skills and fitness assessment drills.
Amongst the NBA legends in attendance at the event were five-time NBA champion Ron Harper and two-time NBA slam dunk champion Jason Richardson.
